Professor King-Chuen Lin’s Laboratory is part of the Department of Chemistry at Tamkang University. Its research covers nanomaterials, catalyst chemistry, and the synthesis, characterization, and catalytic applications of metal nanoparticles. The team also connects science, art, and sustainability by transforming scientific knowledge into accessible hands-on experiences. In recent projects, polarizer scraps from LCD panel manufacturing have been repurposed as a creative medium. Through polarization, birefringence, and layered materials, vivid colors can be produced without using pigments. These experiments turn industrial scraps into materials for art and education, helping participants understand the science of light and color while discovering new possibilities for the circular use of technological materials.

The Magic of Light

By layering polarizer film and transparent tape, participants can create vibrant artwork without using any pigments. Refraction, polarization, and variations in material thickness transform ordinary light into shifting colors that change with the viewing angle.
