Shadow Legends Theatre has long used traditional Taiwanese shadow puppetry as its primary creative medium, combining light-and-shadow art with environmental education to transform sustainability concepts into stories that audiences can easily understand, experience, and engage with. Recent productions, including Sea Sheep and What Happened to the Whale?, feature shadow-puppet characters cut and assembled from discarded polarizer film. By integrating traditional puppetry with optical effects, these works explore marine conservation, plastic pollution, and ecological sustainability while encouraging audiences to reconsider humanity’s relationship with nature.

Polarizer Shadow Art

The group also cuts and assembles polarizer scraps from LCD panel manufacturing into shadow-puppet characters. Combined with traditional puppetry, lighting, and polarization, the reclaimed material produces vivid and changing colors on stage.
